Commitment to Net Zero

Britmed Healthcare Ltd is committed to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions in line with the NHS England net zero ambition:

  • Scope 1 & 2 (direct emissions) – net zero by 2040
  • Scope 3 (indirect / supply chain emissions) – net zero by 2045

We support the NHS’s target to reduce direct emissions by 80% by 2028–2032 and supply chain emissions by 80% by 2036–2039. Our CRP is published publicly and will be updated annually.

Emissions Baseline (Year 2024)

We have chosen calendar year 2024 as our baseline – the first full year of operations for which we could collect reasonable estimates.

2.1 Baseline emissions (tCO₂e)

ScopeSource2024 Emissions (tCO₂e)
Scope 1Company-owned vehicles, combustion of gas/oil0 (no owned vehicles; office has no gas)
Scope 2Purchased electricity – shared office1.0 (estimated from pro‑rated electricity use)
Scope 3Staff commuting (mostly remote)1.5
Business travel (train, public transport)0.6
Patient travel to face‑to‑face appointments4.0
Waste (general, recycling, confidential paper)0.2
Paper & printed materials (prescriptions, letters)0.1
Purchased goods & services (IT, office supplies)0.3
Total Scope 36.7
Total gross emissionsScope 1+2+37.7 tCO₂e

Methodology notes:

  • Emission factors: UK Government GHG Conversion Factors for Company Reporting (2024).
  • Patient travel: estimated using clinic postcode, average round trip of 12 miles per appointment, 200 face‑to‑face appointments in 2024, 70% car, 30% public transport.
  • Staff commuting: 5 staff, average 1 day per week in office, 10‑mile round trip, mostly car.
  • Office electricity: shared space, 500 kWh annual pro‑rated, grid average factor.

Current Emissions (Most Recent Year – 2025)

Scope2025 Emissions (tCO₂e)Change vs baseline
Scope 10
Scope 20.9–10%
Scope 36.2–7.5%
Total7.1–7.8%

Progress highlights:

  • Increased remote working further, reducing office electricity and commuting.
  • Switched to a 100% renewable electricity tariff for the office (effective 2025, reported using market‑based method).
  • Expanded use of electronic prescriptions and GP emails, reducing paper emissions.

Reduction Targets

We have set absolute, time‑bound targets against our 2024 baseline:

TargetYearReduction vs baseline
Reduce Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 50%203050% (from 1.0 to 0.5 tCO₂e)
Reduce total emissions (Scope 1–3) by 50%203050% (from 7.7 to 3.85 tCO₂e)
Reduce Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 80%203280% (from 1.0 to 0.2 tCO₂e)
Reduce Scope 3 emissions by 80%203980% (from 6.7 to 1.34 tCO₂e)
Net zero Scope 1 & 22040100%
Net zero Scope 32045100%

These targets are consistent with the NHS Net Zero Supplier Roadmap and will be reviewed every three years.
